From Scan to Model: How We Turn Site Data into Usable Drawings
For architects, understanding what happens after a building has been scanned is key to appreciating both accuracy and turnaround times. At Archilink, we follow a structured, proven workflow that transforms raw survey data into precise, usable models and drawings.

Once one of our surveying teams has completed a site visit, the first step is processing the ground-based LiDAR data. This data is imported into Cyclone, where our surveyors carefully review and verify the accuracy of the scan. This stage is critical. Ensuring everything aligns correctly before moving forward guarantees a reliable final output.
Once we are satisfied with the quality and accuracy, the point cloud is exported into Recap, preparing it for the next stages of integration and modelling.
If the project also includes drone data, the process runs in parallel. Hundreds of high-resolution images captured onsite are uploaded into RealityCapture. These images are processed, merged, and used to generate a detailed, colourised point cloud. This is then exported as a LAS file, scaled appropriately, and converted into an RCP file to ensure compatibility with our modelling environment.
With both datasets, ground-based LiDAR and aerial drone data, prepared as RCP files, we bring everything together in Revit. This is where the modelling process begins.
Our team builds accurate, detailed models directly from the point cloud data, ensuring that all architectural elements are faithfully represented. Depending on the size and complexity of the project, this modelling stage typically takes around 10 working days.
Once the model is complete, we tailor the final deliverables to suit your workflow. If a Revit model is your preferred output, we can deliver it directly. Alternatively, we can export AutoCAD drawings or SketchUp models, ensuring seamless integration with your existing processes.
Our goal is to make the transition from survey to design as smooth as possible. By combining robust data processing with efficient modelling, we provide architects with accurate, flexible deliverables that are ready to use from day one.
